David Woods, MD, Surgeon

Jordan Hastings, MD, Surgeon

Dr. Woods and Dr Hastings perform modern small incision cataract surgery in Northern California at both Advanced Eye Surgery Center and Skyway Surgery Center in Chico. The surgery lasts approximately 10-minutes, uses small incisions and is typically suture-less. Patients are given intravenous sedation for their comfort and allowing for an improved surgical experience. A variety of intraocular lens implants and customized vision options are available including Toric lenses, Multifocal/Panoptix lenses, Light Adjustable Lenses, and Presbyopia Correcting Lenses. Our surgeons also make femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery available for astigmatism correction. Review and discuss with your surgeon visual lifestyle style goals with vision correction surgery. Our surgeons have a very high safety profile on top of a nationally a very safe procedure and hold themselves to the highest standards. Risks of surgery are very small, please discuss this with your physician and at your consultation.

For patients who want to see better, but may not have mature cataracts we offer refractive lens exchange, sometimes also called clear lens extraction. Refractive lens exchange is a procedure in which the lens is replaced with a new lens option that can correct glasses prescriptions. The same lens options for cataract surgery are available for Refractive Lens Exchange including Light Adjustable and Multifocal lenses. The costs for refractive lens exchange are out of pocket because it is an elective procedure and not covered by insurance. Many patients elect to proceed with refractive lens exchange surgery after age 45 years old rather than a corneal refractive procedure such as LASIK or PRK because it can restore a full range of vision from distance to near vision without glasses in many cases. The risk of surgery does apply and please discuss this with your physician and at your consultation.
